Ravichandran Ashwin: ‘It is rare to have players like him’: Rohit Sharma praises Ravichandran Ashwin ahead of his 100th Test | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: India captain Rohit Sharma hailed senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin as a “rare” talent whose contributions have been instrumental in the team’s success as Ashwin prepares to play his 100th Test match.
The fifth and final Test against England, scheduled to begin on Thursday, holds significance despite its inconsequential nature regarding the series outcome, with India having already secured an unbeatable 3-1 lead, for the milestone achievements of Ashwin and England batter Jonny Bairstow.
“Big achievement for any player to play 100 Tests,” remarked Rohit, underscoring the significance of Ashwin’s impending century of Test appearances. “He has been a match winner for us. What he has done for us, no praise is enough.”Ashwin’s tally of 507 Test wickets places him in elite company, making him the second Indian bowler, following Anil Kumble, to surpass the 500-wicket milestone.
“His performances over the last five-seven years, every series he has contributed. It is rare to have players like him,” Rohit added, echoing the sentiments of many in the cricketing world.
