Ritika Singh starrer latest horror thriller Valari hit ETV Win today. Directed by lady director Murika Santoshini, the film also stars Sriram and Attix in pivotal roles. Let's go into the review and see how this movie is doing.
Story:
Naveen (Sreeram) is a Navy Captain working in Chennai. He lives with his wife Divya (Ritika Singh) and son. Divya has a strange dream. In it, a 13-year-old girl kills her parents. Naveen will transfer to Krishnapatnam. He takes his family with him. Initially they start living in government quarters. Divya gets attracted to the old bungalow there. Experiences some mysterious incidents there. One day, she gets into an accident. After Divya's recovery, the whole family moves to that old bungalow. The family soon realizes that the bungalow is connected to their lives. What happened in that bungalow? How is Naveen's family related? Why is Divya having such a strange dream? These questions are answered in the movie.
Plus Points:
Ritika Singh brought life to this film. The whole movie revolves around her character. The actress gave a solid performance in this. Ritika Singh also got a chance to showcase her action elements. She did a great job in the flashback sequence. After the crucial twist is revealed, Ritika's character becomes more powerful.
Sriram impressed with his role. He gave good support to Ritika Singh. The movie became interesting in the climax with some scenes being well handled. The social problem shown in the film needs more public attention. The makers must be appreciated for showing this aspect.
At the end there is a short dialogue where Ritika Singh breaks the fourth wall and poses an important question to society. Such scenes are well executed. Atjak, Subbaraju and others have done justice to their roles.
Minus Points:
If one is expecting a solid thriller or scary moments, Valari will leave you disappointed. Going by the trailer, it looks like a horror thriller. But there are no effective thrills or wow moments in the film. Valari also does not scare us. It lacks the gripping screenplay that such films require.
Valari has some interesting ideas. But it must be said that many scenes are not executed properly. The movie does not give us a satisfying experience despite dealing with a related subject. The idea of the heroine having a strange dream and forgetting her past twice seems very exciting. But they could not be displayed properly on the screen.
Some scenes are not so impressive. For example, there is Ritika Singh's fight scene against a man who looks down on women. Such scenes have to be presented in the next level. But as mentioned earlier they are not designed properly. So the impact is missed. More care should have been taken in the dialogues.
Technical Department:
TS Vishnu's music is fine. The lullaby song composed by Hari Gaura is decent. Cinematography by Sujatha Siddharth is okay. One cannot help but notice the green screen in many shots. The VFX works could have been even better. Editing could have been better. Build values don't matter.
Director Mrittika Santoshini's intention to present an important social issue, problems faced by women in the society is good. Even when a social message is well-delivered, it is not enough. It lacks gripping screenplay and thrilling moments.
Verdict:
Overall, Valari impresses only in a few scenes. Despite the interesting thoughts, the movie is not satisfying. The film deals with an important social issue and ultimately the message is good. Ritika Singh's performance in this is impressive. Lack of gripping narration, thrilling moments and not being able to present some crucial scenes properly become minuses of the movie.
