Like the Ultra models that came before it, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is the best phone in Samsung’s latest Galaxy S flagship lineup for taking pictures and videos. It brings upgrades on both the hardware and software front, such as a new 5x optical periscope camera with a larger sensor and pixel size, video recording on any two cameras at the same time, real-time switching between all cameras when shooting 4K@60 fps videos, and more.

For the Galaxy S24 and S24+, the improvements are mostly on the software side of things. There are also some improvements across all three models that flew under the radar or didn’t get the attention they deserve. A faster shutter speed is one example of that. Samsung’s flagship phones have long been criticized for the shutter lag, which can mess up photos taken in quick succession or when you’re trying to capture moving subjects.

The company finally fixed that with the Galaxy S24 series. On the new phones, lag is virtually non-existent no matter how quickly you tap the shutter button. And now, Samsung has officially revealed just how faster the shutter speed is compared to the S23 lineup.

In a press release highlighting the Galaxy S24 series’ camera upgrades, Samsung says the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s shutter speed is 30% faster. That is a substantial increase that is easily noticeable, and the lag has been reduced on all cameras, not just the primary 50MP or 200MP rear camera.

The press release also talks about other improvements to the camera experience, such as a wider optical image stabilization angle on the 5x telephoto lens and the ability to take 24MP pictures using the Expert RAW app. The AI-powered photo and video editing tools, enhanced by the faster neural processing unit (NPU) on the Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips, are mentioned as well.
