An unprecedented number of Indian students, around 1.5 million, are choosing to study abroad, especially in the U.S.
This surge has been huge, with a 35% increase in students going to U.S. universities just last year.
In total, over 250,000 Indian students are studying in the U.S. now, which is more than in Canada.
Why are they doing this?
Well, many believe that getting a degree from a U.S. university will give them better job options, especially in fields like science and engineering.
But it’s not just about finding good jobs; Indian students are also frustrated with the education system back home.
Indian universities are overcrowded, and it’s super competitive to get in, with some top schools accepting only 0.2% of applicants.
Even though India’s economy is growing, there aren’t enough good jobs for educated young people, so they look abroad.
The U.S. is a top choice because it has famous universities and you can work there after you graduate.
But while it’s great for the students, it’s not so good for India. When talented graduates stay overseas, it means India loses out on their skills and ideas.
U.S. universities are making a big effort to attract Indian students, even going to smaller cities and towns to find them.
The U.S. government is also trying to make it easier for students to get visas. And there are more partnerships between U.S. and Indian universities, showing that both countries are working together more in education.
