Jeep India is reportedly working on an all-new compact SUV, which will sit below the Compass mid-sized SUV. The new SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate and others in the segment. It is likely to be based on the Stellantis CMP platform that underpins the Citroen C3 Aircross.
The report claims that the American automaker could enter in the compact SUV segment in collaboration with Citroen. The heavily localised CMP (Common Modular Platform) will help Jeep to achieve competitive pricing. This platform is affordable, spacious and versatile enough to accommodate 5 and 7-seater options. While the architecture will be shared with Citroen, Jeep will give a completely new design to the SUV.
We reported earlier that Citroen will give a major makeover to the C3 Aircross in 2025. The updated model will receive significantly revised interior along with better quality material and more features. The Jeep’s compact SUV will come as a premium model and will come with a more premium & feature-loaded cabin.
The Jeep’s compact SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that powers the C3 Aircross. This engine is capable of producing power up to 109bhp and a peak torque of 205Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
The exact launch timeline of the new Jeep compact SUV is yet to be revealed. We expect the new SUV to launch by 2025-26. It is likely to cost somewhere between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 18 lakh, which will make it significantly cheaper than the Compass (priced between Rs 20.69 lakh and Rs 32.27 lakh).
