The decision to release the Tamil film “Pon Ondru Kanden” directly on Colors Tamil channel instead of in theaters has surprised its director, V Priya, and lead actors Vasanth Ravi, Ashok Selvan, and Aishwarya Lekshmi.
Even the film’s composer, Yuvan Shankar Raja, who is the film’s coproducer also was not informed about this move.
Vasanth Ravi, the actor known for his role as Rajini’s son in Jailer, expressed his shock and disappointment on social media, criticizing Jio Studios for the lack of communication with the cast and crew who worked hard on the film.
He emphasized the importance of keeping the team informed about such decisions. Despite the producer’s authority over business decisions, Ravi stressed the necessity of informing the artists involved.
Jio Studios has not responded to Ravi’s statement yet.
This unexpected development marks a departure from the traditional release route for Tamil films, opting for television over theaters and OTT platforms.
Directed by V Priya, “Pon Ondru Kanden” features Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Vasanth Ravi in lead roles, with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
