How Can NRIs Vote in Lok Sabha Polls?

The upcoming Lok Sabha elections offer Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) a chance to vote. Here’s how NRIs can participate:

NRIs who are Indian citizens and living abroad due to work or education, without citizenship of another country, can register as Overseas Voters.

NRIs must fill out Form 6A online on the Election Commission of India’s website and provide necessary documents like a recent passport-sized photo, photocopies of relevant passport pages, and visa endorsement pages.

Forms can be submitted online or sent by post to the Electoral Registration Officer/Assistant ERO of their constituency.

A Booth Level Officer will visit the address mentioned in the passport to verify documents. The Electoral Registration Officer’s decision will be communicated via post and SMS.

NRIs won’t receive an Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC). They can vote in person at the polling station by showing their original passport.

NRIs cannot be registered on more than one electoral roll. If they’re already registered as general voters, they must surrender their EPIC when submitting Form 6A.

Upon returning to India, they can register as general electors at their ordinary residence. NRIs are reminded to vote for only one candidate.
