Volkswagen ID.4 Makes India Debut

Volkswagen has announced plans to enter the electric vehicle space of India before the end of this calendar year. The company has revealed the India-bound Volkswagen ID.4 pure electric SUV, which is already on sale in the International market. Scheduled to be launched in the fourth quarter of the calendar year 2024, the new electric SUV will come as a completely built-up (CBU) model.

It is expected that Volkswagen will launch the ID.4 electric SUV in its highest configuration. In terms of proportions, the electric SUV is 4,584mm long, 1,852mm wide and 1,612mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,766. It offers a luggage compartment of 543-litres, while the ground clearance stands at 210mm.

In the global markets, the Volkswagen ID.4 is available with a wide range of powertrains including single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive configurations. The company is likely to launch the GTX variant of the electric SUV, which is offered with a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup. This variant uses one electric motor at the front axle and one on the rear. The combined power and torque stands at 299hp and 460Nm, respectively. It is packed with a 77kWh battery pack that offers a claimed range of up to 480km on a single charge.

The lower-spec rear-wheel-drive version offers 204hp and 310Nm. With the same 77kWh battery pack, the VW ID.4 RWD variant is claimed to offer 520km driving range on a single charge. The battery can be charged using a 11kW AC supply. With 125kW DC charger, the battery can be charged in 30 minutes to offer a 320km driving range.

The VW ID.4 electric SUV will come as a CBU model and is expected to be priced somewhere between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 60 lakh. It will rival the likes of the Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Volvo XC40 Recharge and others in the category.
