Indian Student Dies In Road Accident

Kochhar asked

An Indian-origin girl named Cheistha Kochhar, pursuing her Ph.D. in London, tragically passed away in a road accident in the city.

Cheistha Kochhar, a student at the London School of Economics, was formerly associated with the NITI Aayog’s LIFE program, as mentioned by Amitabh Kant, the former CEO of NITI Aayog, in his announcement of her death on social media platform X.

“Cheistha Kochhar worked with me on the #LIFE programme in @NITIAayog. She was in the #Nudge unit and had gone to do her Ph.D. in behavioral science at #LSE,” Kant tweeted.

“She was bright, brilliant & brave and always full of life. Gone away too early. RIP,” he added.

Tragically, Cheistha was hit by a truck on March 19th while coming back home from LSE. Her husband, Prashanth, who was nearby at the time, rushed to the scene and took her to the hospital. Unfortunately, she lost her life before reaching the hospital.

Cheistha’s father, SP Kochar, is a retired Lieutenant General. She had relocated to the UK last September to pursue her Ph.D. and was an alumna of Delhi University, Ashoka University, University of Pennsylvania, and University of Chicago.
