Live50 updates

  • Caitlin Clark is feeling it from 3 now, which might be what actually puts an end to this game with a full quarter remaining (a lot of us were in Nebraska when they blew a huge lead, OK?). She hits two quick ones and she’s heat-checked on the third.

  • Colorado on one of its best runs of the day, scoring 5 straight to cut the Iowa lead to 58-45.

Buffs have finally strung together a few stops on defense. Jaylyn Sherrod (9 points) has keyed the run.

Caitlin Clark drive, tipped pass, another layup and Iowa’s lead is 58-40. Her brothers stood and motioned for the crowd to get loud ofter the last

  • Iowa puts up an immediate 6 points to start the 2nd half and the lead has ballooned to 19 points.

    Danger zone for Colorado.

Again, Sydney Affolter is so important to Iowa. She rarely eclipsed double-digit points over her career with Iowa, but the junior has hit double digits in five of the six postseason games, including this one. She’s up to 10 points on a perfect 4 of 4 day. Her career high is 18 set during the Big Ten tournament this month.

  • Halftime: Iowa 48, Colorado 35

Caitlin Clark is cooking, with 15 points and 8 assists already. The only slight concern is her 2 fouls, which caused her to sit out late in the half.

  • Colorado doing everything it can to try to keep pace with this machine-like Iowa offense.

Hawkeyes up 36-26 at the midway point in the 2nd quarter.

  • Caitlin Clark finished off the 1st quarter with ANOTHER dime, her 6th of the game, and Hannah Stuelke finishes it to give the Hawkeyes a 22-14 edge.

Clark is already up to four assists within five minutes. She’s hit Sydney Affolter and Hannah Stuelke on two incredible looks. Affolter is tied with Clark with four points and continues to be clutch for Iowa in the absence of fifth-year starting guard Molly Davis. Davis was warming up on the sideline with a small brace on her knee during the 10 minutes of practice open to the media on Friday, but is inactive. Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder said she had expected her back by now and is uncertain on a timetable for a return.

  • Good pace and plenty of shot-making to start this game. Iowa jumps in front 15-7 early.

Caitlin Clark already has 4 points and 4 assists.

Not to get ahead of ourselves here, but no matter which team wins this next game, it’s going to be a heck of a rematch with a spot in the Final Four on the line.

If Iowa wins, Iowa vs. LSU is a 2023 title game rematch. LSU shut down everyone around Caitlin Clark to win the championship.

If Colorado wins, Colorado vs. LSU is a rematch of the season-opener. Colorado stunned theTigers, who loaded an already talented roster with transfers and were ranked No. 1, in Las Vegas. LSU never took back the top spot in the Associated Press rankings.

Official tip-off for Iowa-Colorado is 3:54 p.m. ET. Judging by the roars before Iowa even came out of the tunnel, it’s going to be rocking in here.

UCLA’s season ends short of Elite Eight

If UCLA had hit a few more early shots, this game might look very different. Head coach Cori Close wouldn’t make excuses when asked about it earlier this weekend, but the Bruins had one of the tougher travels getting out here from Los Angeles. Their plane was delayed and they had to stop to re-fuel in Kansas City. By the time they arrived at the hotel and went to sleep, players said it was around 12:45 a.m. ET. Then they turned around and had to be at breakfast by 7:45 a.m. to make it to practice.

One of the difficulties in these eight-team super-regionals is fitting in all of the teams for practices, media availabilities, meals, etc before games tip off in the afternoon time slots. Days are very packed for everyone. Of course, UCLA will have to get used to this type of travel. The Bruins’ run in the Pac-12 is officially over. UCLA heads to the Big Ten next year.

  • Final: LSU 78, UCLA 69

The No. 3 Tigers eke out the win over No. 2 UCLA in an absolute thriller of a game from start to finish. Flau’jae Johnson was the hero for LSU with 24 points, 12 rebounds and seemingly every big play down the stretch. The defending champs advance to the Elite Eight, where they’ll face the winner of Iowa-Colorado.

  • The Tigers are up 7 now with 12.7 seconds left.

  • Angel Reese just fouled out with 31 seconds left. She said something to the UCLA bench on her way off the court and coach Cori Close is livid about it.

  • Hailey Van Lith hits both free throws and the Tigers are up 6.

  • And an offense foul by UCLA on the other end! That may do it here barring a miracle. The Tigers will go to the foul line already up four.

  • Flau’jae Johnson with the scoop to give the Tigers a 4-point lead!
