Toyota Hilux pick-up truck was launched almost a couple of years back in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 33.99 Lakh (ex-showroom). It shares its platform with the Fortuner and Innova Crysta in India while being a direct rival to the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. Last week, the Isuzu D-Max EV prototype was unveiled and it will make its public debut at the 45th Bangkok International Motor Show.
Now, we have learnt that Toyota is planning to introduce the Hilux EV by the end of 2025. This was confirmed by Noriaki Yamashita, President of Thailand Toyota. This announcement comes after Isuzu made it official that the D-Max EV would be manufactured in Thailand.
Speaking to the press, ahead of the Bangkok International Motor Show, Noriaki Yamashita said that the Hilux EV would be ready by the end of the next year. However, he did not specify the exact production factory where it will be manufactured. Toyota is said to be delivering at least one dozen Hilux EVs for tourism purposes to the beach town of Pattaya for trials as public transportation next month, confirmed Yamashita. However, we expect that it will go on sale in India through the CKD route as the standard Hilux.
As for Isuzu D-Max EV, it gets a 1-tonne payload, 3.5-tonne towing capacity, and a 4WD system as standard. The all-electric pick-up truck will carry a 66.9kWh battery pack with maximum power of 174bhp and top speed of 130kmph.
