A Delhi court on Monday allowed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to carry Bhagvad Geeta, Ramayana and the book titled ‘How Prime Ministers Decide’ written by journalist Neerja Chowdhury inside Tihar Jail while he is in judicial custody.

Special Judge (PC Act) Kaveri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue Courts passed the order as the Court sent Kejriwal to judicial custody till April 15.

The judge allowed Kejriwal’s request to have home-cooked meals in the judicial custody since he suffers from diabetes and added that he can bring his mattress, pillows, and quilt to the jail.

The Court passed the order after the Additional Solicitor General SV Raju appeared for ED and did not oppose these requests.

The Court ordered the Tihar Jail authorities to regularly monitor Kejriwal’s sugar levels and to provide him with Isabgol, Glucose, Toffees and Banana if his sugar levels fall suddenly.

Judge Baweja further asked the Tihar Jail Superintendent to consider providing Kejriwal with a notepad and pen.

The Court said that if these items are not available with jail authorities, Kejriwal can carry his own books, notepad, and pen subject to scrutiny and as per rules.

He has also been allowed to bring his own spectacles and continue wearing the religious locket that he is wearing.

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the ED on allegations that he was the “key conspirator” in the money laundering case registered in the matter.

On March 22, Kejriwal was produced by the ED before judge Baweja, who initially remanded the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader to ED custody till March 28.

On March 28, Kejriwal’s ED custody was extended further. The ED remand came to an end on April 1 (Monday).

The ED asked the Court to send Kejriwal to judicial custody and added that it reserves its right to seek his further custody.

Judge Baweja allowed ED’s application and sent Kejriwal to judicial custody for 15 days.
