The Supreme Court questioned the CBI about the prolonged delay in the investigation of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s illegal assets case.
The bench headed by Magistrates Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Deepankar Datta ordered the CBI to explain the reasons behind the investigation’s delay and submit an affidavit within four weeks.
Meanwhile, the Additional Solicitor General, who represented the CBI, informed the court that the delay was due to the discharge petitions. The court ordered that the trial shouldn’t be delayed due to political reasons.
Justice Sanjeev Khanna stressed that Jagan’s political stature as a politician and a Chief Minister should not affect the trial.
The court also announced that it will hear petitions regarding the cancellation of Jagan’s bail and the transfer of the case from Telangana CBI to another state. The next hearing was postponed to the week starting on August 5.
