Skoda India is all set to launch a sub 4-meter SUV in the Indian market by the end of 2024. To be based on the MQB A0 IN architecture, it will be the first sub 4-meter SUV ever from the European brand in India. The all-new Skoda SUV was recently spied during its test runs by Fat Biker and the spy-video reveals several new details about the overall design of the SUV.
The unnamed SUV could be christened as Kwiq, Kyroq, Kymaq, Kariq and Kylaq as Skoda is running an online contest ‘Name Your Skoda’ for the same. It will be up against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon and Nissan Magnite in the domestic market.
Going by the spy-video, one can clearly see the typical Skoda styling elements in the SUV with minimalist approach. One can also see the pre-facelift version of the Tata Nexon, first-gen Hyundai Creta and current-gen Tata Punch besides the Skoda SUV. The road presence of the new Skoda SUV looks trendy with contours and creases, ala a sharp suit.
The front-end sports a moustache grill with split headlamp setup, as we have already seen with the Kushaq. The dual-pod LED headlamps come with turn indicators/LED DRLs at top. Some other design highlights captured in the video include neatly carved lower bumper, huge ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, big honeycomb lower grille and a clamshell bonnet. The side profile shows a thick C-Pillar along with roof rails and body cladding. The rear fascia shows striking resemblance to the VW Taigun with C-shaped LED tail lamps. However, the indicators and reverse lights appear to be halogen units.
The spied SUV rides on steel wheels with covers, which are shod with section 205 tyres. In addition, several key elements like rear defogger, washer and wiper are missing. In fact, it misses out on the sunroof feature as well which strengthens the belief that it is mid-level trim. Inside the cabin, an all-digital instrument cluster with a massive touchscreen infotainment system is clearly visible.
The technical specs of the new SUV are not in public domain yet but we expect it to be equipped with a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine with top power of 113 bhp and peak torque of 178 Nm. The gearbox choices could be a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic unit.
