New UK Documentary Reveals Racist Face Of UK

Defiance Fighting The Far Right

A new UK documentary reveals the story of resistance put forth by the British Indians during the 1970s and 80s. The documentary highlights the racial attacks and violence expelled at the British Indians by the far right British government of the time.

The documentary titled ‘Defiance: Fighting The Far Right’ is airing on channel 4 in three parts. It contains archival footage and first hand accounts of survivors of the time. Racist assaults and killings saw a surge between 1976 and 1981.

The South Asian community suffered brutal attacks from the white Britishers during the period which is documented in the series. These attacks were allegedly organized and orchestrated by far right organizations like National Front. They were an openly racist organization.

The documentary has accounts of individuals driving with hockey sticks and stocking petrol bombs just to defend themselves. Anti-immigrant sentiments were very high during the period and the documentary can act as a warning to countries having trouble making peace with the immigrants.
