Virat Kohli’s 100: Another Selfish Innings?

Virat Kohli’s stellar performance, marked by his eighth IPL century, unfortunately, couldn’t salvage Royal Challengers Bangalore’s fate as they succumbed to a resounding defeat against Rajasthan Royals.

While Kohli’s recent form has faced scrutiny, his century in this match showcased a return to form. Becoming the first player to achieve this feat in the season, Kohli’s innings appeared promising.

However, critics argue that his slow pace, particularly in the crucial moments of the game, hindered the team’s chances of victory.

In the latter overs, Kohli’s intent and approach came under question. Opting for singles instead of attacking shots, especially in the 18th and 19th overs, raised eyebrows among fans and analysts alike.

Despite a decent start and a partnership with Faf du Plessis, Kohli’s inability to accelerate in the final overs proved costly.

Many believe that Kohli’s selfish focus on personal milestones, like completing his century, overshadowed the team’s overall objective of setting a competitive target.

Some harsh critics of Kohli say that as long as Virat Kohli keeps scoring lots of runs, he ends up batting for a long time. This can lead to Royal Challengers Bangalore losing games in T20 cricket.

The reason is that while Kohli is a great player, his style doesn’t always fit well in fast-paced T20 matches.

Some people suggest Kohli should do what MS Dhoni is doing towards the end of his career. Dhoni is batting lower down the order, around the 6th or 7th position, making sure he doesn’t face too many balls, usually not more than 2 overs, scores some big hits, and makes fans happy. Virat should do the same.
