China couldn’t encroach even an inch of land under Modi govt: Amit Shah

Guwahati: Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that the BJP led government at the centre not only stopped infiltration and secured the border with Bangladesh but also ensured that China could not encroach even a single inch of land.

Addressing an election rally at Lakhimpur, Mr Shah said,”People of Assam will never forget how Jawaharlal Nehru said ‘bye-bye’ to Assam during the Chinese aggression. Under PM Modi’s government, China couldn’t encroach even one inch of our land…Assam and Arunachal Pradesh can never forget 1962.”

Launching a frontal attack on the Congress party, he went on saying, “A few days ago, Rahul Baba was saying we need to save the culture of Assam. I want to remind him what his grandmother did to Assam. Thousands of youths were misguided and killed. Whereas, Narendra Modi signed more than ten peace accords and brought stability to Assam. Over 9,000 people have surrendered and joined the mainstream.”

Highlighting the BJP government’s efforts to check the influx from neighbouring Bangladesh, Mr Shah asserted, “The BJP government has stopped the influx in Assam.”

Drawing attention to cultural recognition, Mr Shah reminded as to how the Congress party had forgotten legendary personalities of the state like Bhupen Hazarika

Pointing out that the BJP government honoured Bhupen Hazarika posthumously by awarding him with the Bharat Ratna, he accused Congress of neglecting Assam’s legends and failing to honour their contributions adequately.

Mr Shah also accused the Congress party of not fulfilling its responsibilities towards Assam, particularly in terms of equitable development and justice for the north-eastern state. He equated it with the BJP’s track record of mega developments and transformative changes under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.

He said while Assam received only Rs 1,62,000 crore in funds from the Congress-led government from 2004-2014, the NDA government led by Narendra Modi has allocated Rs 4,15,000 crore in funds in the last 10 years. “I am certain that in the upcoming years, Assam will become a developed state,” the home minister said.

Mr Shah who concluded his speech with the slogan of “Jai Shree Ram” said,”For years the Congress party had left the Ram Mandir issue hanging. It was during PM Modi’s time that the judgement came, ‘bhoomi poojan’ happened and finally on January 22, the ‘pran pratishtha’ took place.”

Lakhimpur in Assam will vote in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 19. The northeastern state will also vote on April 26 and May 7, the second and third phases respectively. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.
