Maruti Suzuki is all set to enter the EV segment in India with the launch of multiple new products. Surprisingly, Maruti Suzuki has been selling mild-hybrid and CNG cars in the Indian market as of now. But, this is going to change now as the company begins its EV journey from late 2024 or early 2025 with the eVX, which will be followed by the YMC MPV and eWX small car. Lets talk about the upcoming Maruti Electric Cars in detail.
Maruti eVX
Showcased as ‘Concept’ at the 2023 Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki eVX is going to be the brand’s first-ever electric car. It will measure nearly 4.3 metres in length while being a direct rival to Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Harrier EV when it launches in early 2025. Reports have stated that the all-electric eVX SUV will be retailed through the NEXA range of premium dealerships in India. It will be equipped with a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack to achieve a driving range of 550+ km on a single charge. Underpinning the new electric skateboard architecture, Maruti eVX will come loaded with a plethora of comfort features in the form of automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system and wireless charging.
Maruti YMC MPV
Maruti Suzuki will expand its EV portfolio with the introduction of the all-electric YMC MPV in India. The company has chalked out a new EV strategy to become the biggest EV maker of India by 2027-28 and the YMC is going to play a key role in achieving this feat. Maruti Suzuki YMC EV, built on the same electric skateboard platform as the eVX, will be launched during the festive season of 2026. It is being widely speculated that the all-electric YMC MPV would not only be sold in India but exported to several global markets, inline with Make-in-India, Made-for-World initiative. The YMC will also have a Toyota sibling as a part of the rebadging agreement between the two brands.
Maruti eWX Based EV
Maruti Suzuki eWX will be the brand’s entry-level EV in the Indian market. To be aimed directly at MG Comet EV and arriving at a Rs sub 10 lakh price, the eWX will be the all-electric version of the Wagon R with the same ‘Tall Boy’ stance. It debuted as Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show 2023 in October and the company officially termed it as a ‘practical mini wagon’ which is built for daily commuting and city usage. Maruti eWX will have a range of 230 km on a single charge, which will make it quite suitable for daily office goers. It will be launched in the next 2-3 years in India once the eVX and YMC are on sale in the country. Expect more details about the eWX in public domain closer to the launch date.
