Film Becomes Disaster Despite Positive Reviews

Ajay Devgn Maidaan

Ajay Devgn’s movie “Maidaan” saw a huge drop on its second day after a very poor first day. Despite hopes for a rise or at least maintaining yesterday’s pace, it didn’t happen.

Released alongside Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,” “Maidaan” lagged behind at the box office, especially in big cities, surprising many.

Despite extremely positive reviews, it struggled to attract the audience, leading to a 40% drop compared to Thursday’s already low earnings, estimated at ₹2.5 Cr on Friday.

“Maidaan” narrates the life of Syed Abdul Rahim, a key figure in Indian football. Its opening day collected ₹7.1 crore (including Wednesday’s paid preview collections), dropping to ₹2.75 crore on day two.

Maidaan is heading towards 12-13 crore 4-day weekend which is very poor. The lifetime of the film might not cross 30 crores. The film’s budget is over 200 crores. The kind of collections the film is witnessing, it should end up as one of the biggest disasters in Indian cinema.

Both “BMCM” and “Maidaan” had disappointing Eid openings, unlike previous Salman Khan releases that had massive openings during the festival. “Bharat,” “Sultan,” “Race 3,” and “Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ka Jaan” all garnered significant numbers. Even Shah Rukh Khan’s “Chennai Express” saw immense success on Eid.
