As more and more Indian students flood to the United States for studies, the increase in news related to them is also increasing. Lately, there has been a big spike in tragic or violent incidents reported involving Indian students in the U.S. Here, we have a shocking and rather odd situation to report.

Amogh Upadhya, a second-year graduate at San Jose State University, stands accused of arson following his arrest in connection with two fires at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library on campus.

Cal Fire, in collaboration with the San Jose State University Police Department and the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Arson and Bomb Unit, launched an investigation into the fires that occurred on March 31 and April 8.

Through thorough canvassing, review of surveillance footage, and pursuit of leads, authorities identified Upadhya as the suspect, leading to his arrest on April 12.

Despite his background in robotics and machine learning, Upadhya’s motive for the alleged arson remains unknown.

His LinkedIn profile showcases his academic achievements and ambition for a career in software engineering.

Currently, Upadhya is being held on $400,000 bail and faces four counts of arson. His court hearing on April 12 marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing investigation.
