Toyota Kirloskar Motor has rolled out a new special edition of its top-selling Fortuner 7-seater SUV. Called the Toyota Fortuner Leader Edition, the model comes with a set of accessories tailored to meet specific requirements. Although prices for the special edition have not yet been announced, it’s expected to be priced slight premium over the regular 4X2 variants that cost Rs 35.93 lakh – Rs 38.21 lakh (all, ex-showroom).
The new Toyota Fortuner Leader Edition is being offered with the 2.8L diesel and 4X2 setup. The oil burner delivers power worth 204bhp and 420Nm (MT)/500Nm (AT) of torque. Buyers can choose from three dual-tone colour schemes – Silver Metallic with Black accents, Platinum Pearl White with Black accents and Super White with Black accents.
On the exterior, the new Toyota Fortuner Leader Edition features the slightly different front and rear bumper ‘spoilers’, which can be installed at any Toyota dealership. The new black alloy wheels add more to its sporty looks. Inside, the new Fortuner Leader Edition has a wireless charger, dual-tone seat upholstery, auto folding ORVMs and a tyre pressure monitor.
The Japanese automaker has also revealed that over 2.5 lakh units of the Fortuner SUV have been sold in India ever since its arrival in 2009. The model is now ready for a major generational upgrade that’s likely to happen in early 2025. However, the SUV’s all-new version might make its global debut towards the end of this year.
The new Toyota Fortuner will receive significant upgrades in terms of features including the Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) tech. The SUV model lineup could also be packed with the vehicle stability control and electric steering. Globally, the new Fortuner will get the mild hybrid powertrain with the 2.4L turbo petrol engine. In India, it could retain the existing 2.8L diesel motor, but it’s unclear whether it will get the 48V mild hybrid tech.
