Bajaj Auto aims to further expand its Chetak electric scooter model lineup with a new, more affordable variant. Ahead of its official arrival, a few of its images have leaked on the web. Painted in a Blue shade, the new Bajaj Chetak variant appears more or less similar to the existing Premium and Urbane variants. However, there are key differences such as steel wheels and drum brakes. In contrast, the Premium and Urbane variants come with alloy wheels and have disc brakes.
The new, affordable model gets the conventional physical key slot and monochrome display instead of the coloured LCD. Unlike the other two trims that have lockable glove box, the new one features dual open cubbies.
Powertrain details of the new Bajaj Chetak variant are yet to be disclosed. Though, the leaked images reveal that it might not have a hub motor hinting at slightly lower performance figures. At present, the Chetak Premium is available with a 3.2kWh battery pack ensuring an IDC range of 126km. The Urbane variant comes with the 2.9kWh battery that’s claimed to offer a range of 113km. It offers a top speed of 63kmph and one riding mode – Eco.
Following the launch of the new Chetak variant, the Pune-based two-wheeler maker will introduce its first CNG bike in June 2024. The model is likely to be high on mileage. It could be offered with the 110cc engine that’s good enough for 8.6PS and 9.81NM. The motor will be paired to a CNG kit placed below the seat. The spy images reveal that the Bajaj CNG bike will come with the 17-inch wheels and have front and rear drum brakes. Suspension duties will be done by the conventional telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The bike might get be offered with ABS and non-ABS options.
