Kannada Makers Crazy About Big OTT Brands

Many Kannada movies want to get onto popular streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, but it’s hard for most of them to do so. Only a few actually make it.

Kannada films are looked down on by these big OTT platforms. Except for a few like KGF, Kantara, and a few others, many think they don’t make high-quality content.

A debate is going on about whether there should be a special streaming service just for Kannada movies since the ones that exist right now don’t have enough stuff to attract viewers.

The big reason filmmakers want their movies on Amazon Prime Video is because it’s well-known, even though they might not make a lot of money from it.

There are other options like Namma Flix, which include minimum guaranteed payouts and revenue sharing, but they’re not as famous.

They want their movies on big platforms like Amazon Prime Video because it makes the actors and crew more famous. They care less about how much money they make.

Some people think it would be cool to let filmmakers decide how much to charge for their movies and control where they’re shown (Transactional Video On Demand), but filmmakers aren’t really trying that out.

There are also people in the industry who suggest releasing movies online at the same time they’re in theaters to stop piracy.

They think this will make it cheaper for people to watch movies at home and stop them from watching bad-quality pirated copies.

But, no one in the Kannada movie industry is interested in this idea yet.

It would be better for the Kannada industry to focus on making good films and content, like the Malayalam industry.

They faced similar discrimination from OTT platforms but won over the audience with quality films. This made OTT platforms chase those producers.

Recent examples are Premalu and Manjummel Boys.
