Tension in Punganur mandal
Punganur, Newstoday: During the election campaign, the dispute between Vaikapa and Bharat Chaitanya Yuvajana Party (BCYP) workers has led to tension. BCYP president Ramachandra Yadav participated in the campaign in Magandlapalle of Punganur mandal of Chittoor district on Friday. On this occasion, an altercation took place when the BCYP workers were handing over a leaflet to the Vaikapa activist of the village Shasibhushan Reddy. The talk escalated and led to a fight. Both sides attacked with sticks and stones. The windows of a BCYP vehicle were broken in the attack. Party worker Narayana was injured. The police reached there and dispersed both the parties. The injured Narayan was shifted to the local government hospital. The BCYP leaders alleged that Vaikapa activists made obscene gestures against their leader while handing over the pamphlet. Vaikapa leaders say that they attacked themselves because they did not take the pamphlet. As the situation turned tense, a police picket was set up in Magandlapalle and Maddanapalle. Vaikapa activists lodged a complaint with the police. Punganur CI Raghavareddy is investigating both sides. BCYP president Ramachandra Yadav alleged that atrocities by Vaikapa leaders have increased in the constituency. He asked if it is reasonable to carry out such attacks if he is campaigning peacefully.
