It’s been 17 years since director Venkat Prabhu made his directorial debut with Chennai 600028, a film that etched its place as a cult sports comedy in Tamil cinema.
He has delivered some memorable films like Mankatha and Maanadu since then. However, his last film Custody turned out to be a damp squib.
Now he is coming up with GOAT starring Thalapathy Vijay and Meenakshi Chaudhary which is gearing up for a release on September 5.
Meanwhile, he dragged himself into a mini-controversy when he shared a video on his Instagram handle where an individual was criticizing how all big commercial movie trailers are the same.
In the video, he said that all trailers open up with some kind of over-the-top retro music and then the star hero is introduced who is uttering some punch dialogues from his own old movies.
Some netizens speculated that Venkat Prabhu was poking fun at director Lokesh Kanagaraj, who recently unveiled the introduction video of his upcoming film Coolie starring Rajinikanth, as it seemed to fit the description in the video.
Venkat Prabhu might have seen the criticism coming his way so he quickly put out a tweet saying, “No no no!!! It’s about all of us who are doing commercial flick!! And what he is saying is kinda true too!! If we try to give something different from the regular commercial template!! are the fans ready to accept!”
