The official announcement of the release date for Kalki 2898 AD has finally arrived, sparking excitement among fans as the film is set to release on 27 June.
Shot primarily in Telugu with some scenes reshot in Hindi, Kalki 2898 AD is an upcoming 2024 Indian epic science-fiction dystopian film co-written and directed by Nag Ashwin. The film is inspired by Hindu mythology, the film unfolds in a post-apocalyptic world in 2898 AD.
To recover the huge 600-crore budget, the film needs to perform exceptionally well not only in Telugu states but also in Hindi regions and overseas.
Merely achieving an average success akin to Saaho or Salaar won’t suffice for Kalki to secure its place as a hit film in the Hindi market. It must kick off with a strong start and sustain momentum for a few weeks to be deemed successful.
A well-received trailer, impressive songs, and effective promotional materials are the need of the hour to entice the Hindi audience for a good opening day.
Kalki 2898 AD’s Hindi theatrical rights have been acquired by Anil Thadani for 100 crores. The film needs to do a business of a minimum of 200-220 crores net to be declared as a successful film.
Ideally, Kalki 2898 AD should aim for an opening day target of 18-20 crores in the Hindi market, similar to the first-day collections of RRR. The first day worldwide gross should touch 150 crores gross.
With a four-day weekend (27 June-30 June), it should strive for a minimum net collection of 90-100 crores. Ideally, it needs to surpass the lifetime earnings of Saaho (130 crores) or Salaar (140 crores) in Hindi within its first week itself.
Maintaining a steady performance for 3-4 weeks is crucial to achieving a net collection of 250-300 crores at the Hindi box office, to be declared a superhit.
While Nag Ashwin might be relatively unfamiliar to the Hindi audience, the promising star cast of Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Disha Patani, and Kamal Haasan should ignite ample excitement.
With no major releases slated for the next two months, audiences would be craving for some kickass entertainment.
Kalki 2898 AD will be among the first major releases after the IPL and election season, presenting an opportunity to capitalize on this timing with positive word-of-mouth. The Hindu-centric theme based on Indian mythology can also turn out to be one of its biggest USPs.
If all things fall in place we might witness Prabhas’ second biggest hit after Baahubali 2 in Hindi.
