For a while now, there has been a lot of talk about the electoral symbol of JanaSena. At first, there were doubts if JSP would be allocated the glass symbol by the Election Commission which eventually happened and the party was indeed allocated the glass symbol.
Now, there’s another election symbol related issue that is affecting JanaSena but also the TDP+ alliance.
The EC has declared glass as a free symbol, meaning this symbol can be used by any individual candidate in the assembly and parliament constituency where JanaSena is not contesting. This is a headache for the alliance.
Notably, the glass symbol is extensively propagated as the election symbol of JanaSena and it is carried deep into the public.
This will adversely work in constituencies that don’t have JSP candidates as there’s the chance a small section of the voters could get confused and poll their votes for the glass symbol, instead of the TDP or BJP candidate that JSP is strengthening as a part of the alliance. This could be a diversion tactic.
It is heard that 14 assembly constituencies have already had the glass symbol registered for independent candidates.
