‘Playing for pride…’: Dejected Hardik Pandya wants Mumbai Indians to play ‘good cricket’ | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: The race to the IPL 2024 playoffs seems out of reach for the five-time champions Mumbai Indians, despite still having five more games to play.
During the toss against Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Friday, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya acknowledged the team’s challenging season but vowed to keep pushing forward and giving their best effort in the remaining matches.
“It’s always about playing for pride, it looks quite tough for us but at the same time, we want to play good cricket, feels good to be back home. Looks like a good track, it’s a fresh wicket so thought that bowling first will be good. Only one change, Naman Dhir comes in place of Nabi,” Pandya said after MI opeted to field first against KKR.

Mumbai Indians have only won three games out of 10 so far and currently sit in the second-to-last position on the points table.
With four matches left in the league, even winning all of them would only bring them up to 16 points, likely landing them in the middle of the points table without challenging the top teams.
Pandya, who took over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma before the IPL 2024, has struggled to make an impact with both bat and ball following a long injury layoff.
