Haryana Government Political Crisis LIVE Updates: The Congress on Wednesday demanded President’s Rule and fresh elections in Haryana as three Independent MLAs withdrew support from the BJP government and extended it to their party. The Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP government currently has 40 MLAs in the Assembly, shy of the majority mark of 45 in the now 88-member House.

“We are going to write to the Governor that three Independent MLAs have withdrawn support and they have extended support to our party… the government is in the minority and they have no right to stay in power. We will demand that the government be dismissed, President’s Rule be imposed and fresh elections be held,” Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan said.

Where do the numbers stand now? The BJP government has the support of 43 MLAs (including the support of 2 other Independent MLAs) now, though it claimed on Tuesday that four Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) MLAs too may offer “tactical assistance to the government if needed”, taking its strength to 47. Meanwhile, JJP leader Dushyant Chautala today announced that he would “support Leader of Opposition, Bhupinder Singh Hooda” if the latter initiates a move to topple the BJP government in the State. JJP had pulled out of the BJP coalition government in March.
