Marvel Chops Down On Quantity; Fatigue Or Budget?

Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, has made a statement regarding the strategies the company might take in the future. Iger said that Marvel might limit itself to a mere three movies per year and would hold itself back from releasing more than two shows a year. This radical step was announced on Tuesday. With the focus finally shifting in favor of quality instead of quantity,.

Recently, the phenomenon known widely as “superhero fatigue” has become prevalent. The audience is getting overwhelmed by the abundance of superhero material, for which Marvel is very responsible. The IP started strong until Endgame, after which it has been greatly accused of supplying half-baked products to the public.

Iger said, “We’re slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two, or a maximum of three.”.

While Iger stated plans for the reduction of the slate, it is to be noticed that the recent pipeline of Marvel projects seems to move away from the idea proposed by the Disney CEO. As we see after this year’s Deadpool and Wolverine, we have a continuous barrage of Marvel projects like Captain America: Brave New World and the Thunderbolts, along with Blade and Fantastic Four, that will be up for release.
