The electioneering in the Telugu states is heavily influenced by the distribution of money and this process is as prevalent as ever this year. YSR Congress and the TDP+ alliance are leaving no stone unturned to win the election at any cost.
Usually, the distribution of money is done the night before the polling or in the best-case scenario, two days before the polling. This is to make sure that the monetary gains are fresh in the minds of the voters before they go out to vote.
However, come 2024, as per the ground reports the money distribution process has reportedly started much in advance as there are reports that the candidates in several major constituencies have started the distribution process through their network already.
For a change, the monetary disbursement process is beginning 4 days before the polls which is a first in the Telugu states. It appears that the electioneering strategies are changing rapidly with time as the contestants are in a hurry to get on with it.
There are unverified reports that on average, the leading parties are spending at least Rs 2000 per vote and the amount is going up to even Rs 10,000 in certain key constituencies where a win is of paramount importance.
