The polling is currently underway in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. While Telangana is undergoing Lok Sabha elections, Andhra Pradesh is having both assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
There have been numerous instances in Andhra Pradesh where YCP leaders and supporters created a ruckus at polling stations. Several complaints have been filed against them since morning.
The Election Commission has taken the issue seriously and taking necessary action against the perpetrators who caused nuisance at polling stations in Guntur district’s Tenali, Palnadu district’s Macharla and Anantapur.
In Tenali, YCP contestant Siva Kumar slapped a common voter who asked him to stand in the queue. On the other side, YCP leaders damaged EVMs in Macharla citing that most of the votes have been cast for TDP.
The EC ordered to house-arrest the perpetrators who caused a disturbance at their respective polling booths and also file cases against them.
The EC also ordered to suspension of Punganur SI, who released culprits who caused disturbance at the town’s polling station.
Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam Party filed a complaint to the EC stating that the law and order had completely failed in Andhra Pradesh today during the polling.
11 complaint letters, including a letter by TDP chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu, have been submitted to the EC by TDP’s former MP, Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar. In the complaint, it was stated that more than 120 violence cases were reported across the state since morning.
