The Delhi High Court on May 16 issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on BRS leader K. Kavitha’s plea seeking bail in the corruption case connected with the Delhi excise policy case.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma issued notice to the agency and listed the case for further hearing on May 24 along with another petition by Ms. Kavitha seeking bail in the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) money laundering case.

Ms. Kavitha is in judicial custody in both the cases lodged by the ED and the CBI in relation to the alleged scam.

Ms. Kavitha was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate first for her alleged role in money laundering in the excise policy case and was sent to Tihar Jail. The CBI, which is probing the liquor policy case, arrested her when she was in jail.

The daughter of BRS president and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was arrested from her residence in Hyderabad on March 15 on charges of being a part of the ‘South Group’ that allegedly paid ₹100 crore to the AAP government in Delhi for altering the liquor policy of the Delhi government to suit their business needs.

Her bail application in the ED case is pending before the High Court. On May 6, the trial court had dismissed Ms. Kavitha’s bail application in the corruption case as well as the money laundering case being probed by the ED.
