Social media has become a platform of humiliation and agony for many people these days. Netizens with no identity users troll others, indirectly impacting their mental health.
We have seen many individuals take extreme steps after facing online abuse or trolling. In a tragic incident, a woman techie ended her life after facing severe trolling on social media.
A few weeks ago, a video went viral on social media, showing an eight-month-old child being rescued from the rooftop of a second-floor flat in Chennai.
The incident occurred on April 28. The child had reportedly slipped from her mother’s hands on the fourth floor and got stuck on the rooftop of a flat on the second floor.
While many praised the prompt and heroic efforts of the apartment residents who rescued the child, netizens also harshly criticized the parents for their alleged negligence. They questioned how the parents could be so irresponsible with such a young baby at home.
Not only netizens but also neighbours and news channels also criticized the parents, calling the incident a result of their negligence.
Unable to cope with the humiliation and trolling, the victim, along with her husband and baby, went back to her hometown Karamadai near Coimbatore.
The severe impact on her mental health led the woman to take the extreme step. On Sunday, when no family member was home, she committed suicide.
Upon returning home, family members found her unconscious. They rushed her to the hospital immediately but unfortunately, she was declared dead by the doctors.
