One doesn’t normally pick the Jimny for highway runs – unless the road leads to a bit of off-roading or to the hills.
BHPian blueberry recently shared this with other enthusiasts.
I moved cities to Bangalore this month. Had the Jimny sent over in a car carrier. Loaded the car with some household stuff I wanted shipped.
Went ahead with a trusted Packers & Movers service. They handle movement for BPCL officers on transfer. They do quality work & are very professional.
- I was charged Rs 23K for transporting the vehicle from Gurgaon to Bangalore.
- Daily updates on where the vehicle had reached.
- I could drive the vehicle into the carrier myself & got to pick the spot inside the car carrier
- Total journey time = 6 days.
P.S. My only relation with these folks is that I’m a happy repeat customer. No commercial relationship whatsoever. 3 of our recent relocations have been done with them, we have only wonderful things to say about these guys.
Kochi based: Woodpacker Relocation. They recommend local players in other states as well & I only had to deal with the Woodpackers folks.

The Jimny was unloaded at a dusty yard and needed a wash before I could journey from Bangalore.
- The car looks blue only under the sun, when freshly washed. Else it’s got more of a blackish tone.
- Wish the Jimny had a higher blue colour content and less of the black.
- I was surprised to see water being used for washing cars in Bangalore. With the current water scarcity, makes more sense to go the water-less wash route from the next time.
I drove down to Coimbatore. The first long distance highway drive with the Jimny. I decided to take the Mettur dam route for a bit of sightseeing. After the recent rains, the dam has 52ft water (capacity of 120ft).
Eastern ghats on one side
The Kaveri river on the other side
This was downstream from the Mettur dam. The outflow is much higher than the inflow. (50 Cusecs inflow v/s 500 Cusecs outflow)
My hypothesis is, the discharge is for drinking water consumption downstream
What I enjoyed on the highway:
- 80Kmph is easy to reach. Though the 80-100 acceleration is slow.
- Comfortable cruising speed is 90Kmph – with enough reserve to go till 100-105 for overtakes.
- The suspension is comfortable over rumble strips – can hardly feel them. There is no need to slow down for road imperfections.
- Body roll is controlled at high speed corners if the steering inputs are measured and smooth.
- 15 Kmpl efficiency while cruising at 90-100Kmph
What bothered me on the highway:
- Cruising at 120Kmph on the new highways are not possible with the Jimny. It needs 50hp more and a taller 6th gear.
- The lesser power also means overtaking long vehicles on 2 lane roads requires planning.
- Lack of storage space for water bottles & snacks.
- Absence of rear parcel tray – constant worry when the car is parked with luggage in the boot.
One doesn’t normally pick the Jimny for highway runs – unless the road leads to a bit of off-roading or to the hills.
