Cannes 2024: FTII Student Film Sunflowers Were The First Ones To Know Wins Big


The Cannes Film Festival, which started on May 14 in France, will end tomorrow. Several Indian films were selected and screened to compete in various categories of the film festival. The first and third positions were held by Indian short films which made the fans happy.

‘Sunflowers’ is a film directed by Sidthanand S Naik. It is a short film produced by students of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, with a running time of 16 minutes.

The story revolves around a stolen rooster. It is the only film from an Indian film school to make it to the La Cinép category for Best Short Film at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

It was announced yesterday that the short film ‘Sunflowers’ won the first prize in the La Cine category after the screening. Mansi Maheshwari’s ‘Bunnyhood’ bagged the third prize in the same category.

Although ‘Bunnyhood’ is a London-based film, it is noteworthy that it was produced by an Indian from Meerut. 15,000 Euros for the first prize and 11,250 Euros and 7,500 Euros for the second and third prizes respectively.
