Dera Baba | Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Singh approached the High Court. He said that he has 41 days of furlough in a year. Gurmeet Singh is currently serving his sentence in Rohtak Jail after being found guilty in sexual assault and murder cases. However, he is expected to apply for release from prison on parole. He said that he is eligible to come out on 20 days parole and 21 days furlough. However, a division bench of the High Court on February 29 directed the government not to consider the parole application of the dera chief in future without the permission of the court.
The dera chief approached the High Court seeking lifting of the stay on the February 29 order. The petition stated that the parole granted to him was at par with the convicts in similar circumstances. He claimed that the orders given in the past were infringing on his rights. According to the Haryana Act 2022, eligible convicts are entitled to 70 days of parole and 21 days of furlough in every calendar year. However, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has petitioned the High Court several times to grant parole to the dera chief. Due to this, in the month of February, the Dera Chief was banned from being granted parole and furlough in the future. She said that the permission of the court must be obtained.
