Anand Deverakonda scored a surprise success with Baby and here he comes with a crime-comedy Gam Gam Ganesha directed by Uday Bommishetty. The movie was released today in theaters and here is the review from one of the US Premiere shows.

What Is It About?

A petty thief Ganesh (Anand Deverakonda) decides to become a billionaire when his girlfriend ditches him. He takes up an assignment to steal a rare and expensive diamond from a jewelry store in Hyderabad. The robbery goes awry and Ganesh ends up missing the diamond in a Ganesha idol belonging to a Kurnool politician who is doing a different gamble with the idol. How Ganesh gets his diamond and what happens to the money? The answer to this is Gam Gam Ganesha.

Performances

Anand Deverakonda might have thought of picking a contrasting subject from that of Baby, but his performance in Gam Gam Ganesha is not extraordinary. The heroines Pragathi Srivasthava is good looking but has got nothing much to perform and Nayan Sarika appears like a guest actor. Jabardasth Emmanuel gets a full-length role but none of his dialogues could bring laughs. Vennela Kishore is wasted. The villain Raj Arjun is boring. Satyam Rajesh and other just filled the screen.

Technicalities

Gam Gam Ganesha brings up a dated but proven plot of crime comedy genre, yet it lacks a proper execution. It looks more like a series of scenes and songs. The background music is loud and when it sounded interesting the visuals end up disappointing.

Analysis

There has been no proper crime comedy made in Telugu in the recent times. Anand Deverakonda’s Gam Gam Ganesha belongs to the same genre but ends up using the same routine elements in a commercial cinema plot in the genre and the comedy that fails to bring much laughs.

Gam Gam Ganesha has a decent plot on paper but lost the essence on screen. There are a ton of films in non-linear storytelling, that involve a rare diamond heist and a hefty amount of money changing hands. Gam Gam Ganesha has all that but with absolutely no high moments and narrative not at all racy.

The first half runs around the hero’s romantic drama that looks artificial right from the beginning and his determination to become a billionaire after love failure. The first half hardly entertains with just a routine car chase and monotonous love track.

The second half has the overstretched drama between the protagonist and the villain gang trying their chance to get away with the diamond and money respectively. There is an unnecessary romantic track brought up in the second half too and the song tagged to it like an extra burden. The comedy by Jabardasth Emmanuel did not work. Vennela Kishore appears in yet another part-time comedy role and and he too could not make any wonders. Apart from a very few comedy scenes all over, the one with Vennela Kishore’s phone call worked well.

Gam Gam Ganesha starts with three concepts fear, greed, and conspiracy. Unfortunately, the director could not justify any of them properly with the old story and poor execution. Overall, Gam Gam Ganesha is a very ordinary movie with no special things to mention. Forget about it being racy and thrilling, this crime-comedy fails at crime and comedy also.

Bottom Line: Gone Ganesha

Rating: 1.75/5
