Mass Ka Das Vishwak Sen’s latest film ‘Gangs of Godavari’ released in theaters today amid good expectations. Let’s see how this mass action entertainer movie directed by Krishna Chaitanya is in this review.
Story:
Lanka Ratnam (Vishwak Sen) joins the team of MLA Dorasami Raju (Goparaju Ramana) to rise in life in Kovvuru village. After that he joined Nanaji (Nazar) group and became MLA. However, his behavior makes him enemies. How did Ratnakar deal with adversity when he grew up to be Tiger Ratnakar? Who is Bujji (Neha Shetty)? What is Ratnakar’s relationship with her? How Ratnakar countered the moves of his opponents has to be seen on the silver screen.
Plus Points:
Vishwak Sen’s performance as Lanka Ratnakar is impressive. Especially his dialogues in Godavari accent will be remembered by the audience. Vishvak has shown very well the difference in his character before and after coming to power. Anjali once again impresses with her performance. Although her character length is short, she impresses the audience with her screen presence. The action sequences in the first half and the score by Yuvan Shankar Raja make the movie more interesting. Goparaju Ramana, Nasser and Hyper Adi have done good justice to their roles.
Minus Points:
While the first half of the movie went on with an impressive screenplay, the second half went completely differently. The interest in the first half could not be sustained in the second half. Although Krishna Chaitanya’s direction is good, more attention should be paid to the screenplay. Neha Shetty’s role should have been better. The length of Anjali’s role would also have been increased. The impact would have been stronger if the role of MLA was played by an actor other than Goparaju Ramana. The talent of Nassar and Sai Kumar was wasted. Some scenes are very strong but the way they are presented makes them less interesting. The director needs to focus more on the emotional sequences.
Technical category:
Although Krishna Chaitanya’s direction is good overall, the story of the film would have been more interesting if he had focused more on the second half. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is the strength of the film. Cinematography by Anit Madhadi is good. Naveen Nooli’s editing work was poor in the first half, but should have been better in the second half. The production values of the film are very good.
Verdict:
Overall, Gangs Op Godavari stands as a routine mass action movie. Vishwak Sen’s excellent performance and Anjali’s impressive performance are the things that make this movie come together. However, it must be said that the second half had a profound effect on the film. Poor screenplay, unnecessary scenes and slow progress of the story leave the audience disappointed. Those who want to watch a good entertaining movie this weekend can skip this movie.
