Tummala directs district collectors to Monitor distribution of seeds

Hyderabad: Confirming that there was no shortage of seeds in the state, agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Thursday said that 68.16 lakh packets of cotton and jeelugu seeds are ready for distribution. Additional seeds would also be made available for farmers, he said.

Addressing a review meeting with officers of the department following reports of farmers lining up at seeds’ distribution centers in the districts, the minister said that the required quantity of cotton and jeeluga seeds have already been distributed to all districts.

District collectors have been directed to take due measures so that they reach all farmers in time.

The minister also interacted with representatives of seed companies. Rao cautioned them that if the government gets complaints of seed shortage, the errant dealers would be dealt with. It has been noted that in some districts, especially Adilabad, all farmers were patronising seeds of only one company, Rao said.
