In the political landscape of Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) holds certain constituencies where neither the Congress nor the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has been able to break its stronghold.
For the past 40 years, the TDP flag has flown high in these areas, with TDP candidates winning consistently since 1983.

Regardless of how many candidates have been changed, the election results remain unchanged in favor of the TDP. Even if the candidates were brought into the ring with caste equations, TDP candidates only have won.
Two constituencies that stand out in this context are Kuppam and Hindupur. Since the inception of the TDP in 1983, these constituencies have remained unwavering in their support for the party. Many parties have emerged and disappeared in the state, but the TDP’s strong leadership, dedicated activists, and robust grassroots presence have ensured its continuous victories.

Even with different candidates in each assembly election, the people’s verdict has remained the same for four decades: a win for the TDP.

The TDP’s dominance in Kuppam began with Rangaswamy Naidu winning in 1983 and 1985. Chandrababu Naidu, although originally from Naravari village in the Chandragiri constituency, shifted his focus to Kuppam after losing in Chandragiri in 1983.
Since then, he has been an unbeatable force in Kuppam, winning seven consecutive times from 1989 to 2019.
His strategic move to Kuppam has paid off, with steadfast support from the constituency’s voters for over three and a half decades.
He is now contesting for the eighth time, further cementing his legacy in Kuppam.
Hindupur Constituency
Hindupur has been a bastion of the TDP since the party’s formation. Here, voters look beyond the individual candidates and focus on the party’s symbol.
The Nandamuri family has had a particularly strong influence, winning six times in total. The victorious streak began with Pamishetti Ranganayakulu in 1983, followed by Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) himself in 1985, 1989, and 1994, showcasing a hat-trick of victories.
Since 2014, Nandamuri Balakrishna (Balayya) has turned Hindupur into his fort, and he is set to contest from this constituency for the third time in 2024.
These constituencies, Kuppam and Hindupur, symbolize the enduring strength and influence of the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh politics.
Their consistent support for TDP candidates, irrespective of changes in candidates, highlights the deep-rooted loyalty of the electorate to the party’s ideals and leadership.
In yesterday’s exit polls, even those that gave YSRCP the majority in the assembly elections have declared that Kuppam and Hindupur have been won by Chandrababu Naidu and Balakrishna again.
