Voter Support Is With Me, Says Expelled BJP Leader Raghupathi Bhat

Udupi: Independent candidate Raghupathi Bhat has expressed confidence in his victory in the Southwest Graduates’ Constituency election. Bhat, running as a rebel candidate after being denied a ticket by the BJP, cast his vote and addressed reporters with optimism on Monday.

“Voters have decided to support me. We have given our best effort,” Bhat, stated after voting.

Bhat accused the BJP of distributing money in the Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu regions, a practice he claims is unprecedented in the constituency.

“Seniors should take note of this. Many people have informed me that they received money but still intend to vote for me. There are many who support me while still being part of the BJP,” he added.

Despite his independent candidacy, Bhat, a three-time MLA from Udupi, clarified his support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“I want Modi to continue as the Prime Minister. This (Legislative Council) election is different from the Lok Sabha election,” he said.

Bhat expressed his hopes for a celebratory victory tomorrow and wished for a strong performance by the BJP in Karnataka.

“I hope to celebrate Vijayotsava tomorrow. I want Modi ji to win by a huge margin. I also support the victories of Kota Srinivas Poojary in Udupi and Brijesh Chowta in Dakshina Kannada. I wish the BJP wins all 28 seats in Karnataka,” he added.
