Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy faced tough luck in the recent elections. Many believe he could have secured a spot in Modi’s cabinet if he had won. However, his defeat in the Lok Sabha elections dashed those hopes.
Kiran Kumar had been relatively inactive in direct politics for almost a decade, especially after the state’s division. Despite attempting a comeback with Congress and later joining BJP, he couldn’t maintain a foothold. His decision to contest from Rajampet Lok Sabha Constituency, where he had strong support, seemed promising. Yet, he lost to his political rival Mithun Reddy amidst speculations of cross-voting.
Analysts attribute Kiran Kumar’s loss to his prolonged absence from grassroots politics. Many voters questioned his relevance after years of being away. This, coupled with alleged failure to secure the transfer of votes from TDP and Janasena, sealed his defeat. Although he missed out on victory, had he won, there was speculation he would have secured a position in Modi’s cabinet.
