“Pakistan Captain Babar Azam Isn’t Worth Virat Kohli’s Shoe”

Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has strongly criticized current captain Babar Azam, dismissing comparisons with Indian superstar Virat Kohli ahead of the much-anticipated India-Pakistan 2024 T20 World Cup clash. This high-stakes match will be held today in New York.

Kohli and Babar have often been compared due to their impressive batting achievements over the years. Kohli, the senior of the two, has accumulated nearly 27,000 international runs with 80 centuries.

In contrast, Babar has amassed almost 14,000 runs in his nine-year international career, including 31 centuries.

Speaking to the media before the India-Pakistan clash, Kaneria dismissed the comparisons and criticized Babar’s performance against the USA in Pakistan’s previous match. “Whenever Babar Azam scores a hundred, comparisons with Virat Kohli arise. Virat ke joote k barabar bhi nahi hai (He doesn’t even come close to Kohli’s shoes). Against the USA, he struggled and got out after scoring just 44 off 43 balls. He should have stayed and secured the win. Pakistan should have dominated that game,” said Kaneria.

Pakistan scored 159/7 in their 20 overs against the inexperienced USA attack, which the US batters matched, ultimately winning in the Super Over to stun the Asian giants.

Kaneria predicted a tough game for Pakistan against India, noting India’s superior record in T20 World Cup encounters, where they lead 6-1. “India will beat them badly. They’re not capable of defeating India. Every World Cup, Pakistan praises their bowling, but it’s often their downfall,” said Kaneria.
