The Hyundai Creta EV launch has finally been confirmed for January 2025. Tarun Garg, CEO of Hyundai Motor India, shared this information while addressing the media. He confirmed that the company will roll out its “first high-volume EV” in early January next year. The electric SUV is expected to enter production towards the end of this year. Once launched, the Creta EV will compete against the upcoming Tata Curvv EV, Maruti Suzuki eVX, and the MG ZS EV.
Here’s everything we know about the Hyundai Creta EV so far:
Hyundai’s first mass-market electric car is likely to share its powertrain with the global-spec Kona EV. The lower variants of the Kona EV have a 45kWh battery pack and an electric motor fitted on the front axle. The e-motor delivers a claimed power of 138bhp and 255Nm of torque. Compared to its arch-rivals – the MG ZS EV and the upcoming Maruti eVXwhich come with 50.3kWh and 48-60kWh battery packs respectively – the Creta EV will have a lower capacity battery.
Similar to the Kona EV, the Creta electric will have a charging port at the front end. Based on the Creta facelift, its electric iteration will feature a few different styling elements such as a closed-off front grille, slightly different front and rear bumpers, and new alloy wheels. Inside, there could be a different steering wheel and a revised center console. The electric SUV might get a drive selector placed on the steering column on the right side, as seen in the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
In terms of features, the Hyundai Creta EV is likely to include a touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and OTA updates, an instrument cluster, power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather upholstery, Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car tech, glove box cooling, rear AC vents, and more.
