Last week, Tata Motors launched the Altroz Racer in the Indian market. It’s a sporty version of the Altroz hatchback. At launch, the Altroz Racer is available in three trims with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. However, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic could be introduced in the future. According to Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer of Tata Motors, the carmaker might introduce an automatic gearbox in the future, depending on the demand. He further stated that Tata wanted to bring the model to the market as quickly as possible and hence the 6-speed MT was chosen as it required lower development cost and time. The Altroz Racer’s main rival is the Hyundai i20 N Line, which is available with a choice of a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. With the introduction of the 7-speed DCA, the Altroz Racer will be able to target the higher variants of the i20 N Line. The Altroz Racer is priced from Rs 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
