Telangana HC Reserves Judgment in Contempt Case Against Sports Authority Official

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday reserved orders in the contempt case filed against Shailaja Ramaiyer, vice-chairman and managing director of the Sports Authority for non-compliance of court orders.

K. Dora Reddy, an ex-employee, said the official had not complied with the orders passed by Justice S. Nanda of the Telangana High Court in 2023, directing it to release full pension and pay arrears that the petitioner was legally entitled to. The pension benefits were said to be withheld for 18 years to the said mployee, after his retirement in 2004.

The contention of Sports Authority was that disciplinary proceedings were pending against him. The court in 2023 made it clear that the pension and other benefits could not be kept pending for years under the guise of pendency of disciplinary proceedings, and directed the authority to pay the dues.

Even after the court orders, the authority failed to comply with the order within the stipulated time. Therefore a contempt of court petition was furthered by petitioner Dora Reddy. After hearing both sides, the court reserved orders.
