The wet conditions in the outfield of the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill on Friday morning led to the washout of co-hosts USA’s match against Ireland, which caused a major upset and a historic moment.
The rained-out match meant the 2009 winners Pakistan bowed out of the tournament, while the US made a historic entry into the ‘Super 8s’ in their debut appearance in the event.
The no-result outcome in USA vs Ireland match also left the remaining two games in Group A of elementary interest as India are assured of topping the group, followed by USA at number two as the two teams to progress.
India have defeated Ireland, USA and Pakistan so far to secure six points, while USA have five points from their two wins and a no-result, which includes the historic triumph over Pakistan.
The weather forecast for the Lauderhill region in Florida remains grim, although the afternoon forecast reads slightly better for the game that is scheduled to begin 10:30 am local time, which is 8 pm in India.
