Smoke Advisory: ‘Post Fire’ affecting air quality in Los Angeles County

A massive brush fire that scorched nearly 15,000 acres over the weekend has forced officials to issue a wildfire smoke advisory for parts of Los Angeles County.

The advisory issued Sunday by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) remains in effect through 5 p.m. Monday for areas of the San Fernando Valley, west San Gabriel Valley and San Gabriel Mountains.

“Even in areas far from fires or areas not covered by a smoke advisory, if you can smell smoke or see ash from a wildfire, avoid or limit outdoor activities,” the SCAQMD said.

A map of areas impacted by the “Post Fire” are seen in a map provided by the South Coast Air Quality Management District on June 16, 2024.

The alert comes as the “Post Fire” continues to burn Monday after erupting in northern Los Angeles County over the weekend and then spreading into Ventura County Sunday night.

The blaze had burned 14,625 acres as of early Monday morning and was just 8% contained, according to a Cal Fire update.

Officials said more than 1,200 people have been forced to evacuate their homes.

Gusty winds and hot afternoon temperatures are expected to continue fueling the fire Monday.
