Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter, Maruti Fronx Waiting Period

In micro SUV segment in India, we have three major offerings including Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter and Maruti Fronx. Talking about their waiting period, the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter currently command a waiting period of up to 3 months and 4 months, respectively. Maruti Suzuki’s Fronx is attracting the highest waiting period of up to 6-8 weeks. It’s important to note that the waiting period of these micro SUVs will vary variant, colour and city-wise.

Tata Punchthe top-selling SUV in India, comes with a 1.2L, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with both 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. The motor pushes out a peak power of 86bhp and 113Nm of torque. Its manual and automatic versions are claimed to deliver fuel efficiency of 18.97kmpl and 18.82kmpl, respectively. The Punch accelerates 0 to 60kmph in 6.5 seconds.

Hyundai Exter will soon complete its first successful year in the Indian market. The micro SUV features a 1.2L, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine (83bhp/114Nm) under the hood. It is also available with the CNG fuel option. Hyundai claims that the Exter offers a mileage of 19.4kmpl with the manual gearbox and 19.2kmpl with the AMT unit. It’s CNG version is high on mileage, offering 27.10km/kg.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx sources its power from the 1.0L Boosterjet turbo petrol and 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engines, delivering 100bhp with 147Nm and 90bhp, respectively. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. The Indo-Japanese automaker will give the Fronx its first mid-life update next year. With this update, the micro SUV will receive Maruti Suzuki’s in-house developed hybrid system that’s likely to include a 1.2L petrol engine, an electric motor and a battery pack with a capacity of 1.5kWh to 2kWh. The same hybrid technology will be introduced on the brand’s mass-market models including Baleno, Brezza and more.
